Retail Sales Rise 4.0% in June

Retail sales in Hungary rose 4.0% year-on-year in June, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Retail sales rose 3.0% when adjusted for calendar year effects. Adjusted food sales increased 1.8%, non-food sales rose 5.1% and turnover at petrol stations edged down 0.2%.

Online and mail-order sales volume, which accounted for 8.9% of retail turnover, increased 5.2%.

In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales slipped 0.4%, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.

In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,780 billion in June. Food sales accounted for 48% of the total, non-food sales for 37% and sales at petrol stations for 15%.

In January-June, retail sales rose an adjusted and unadjusted 4.5% from the same period a year earlier. Food sales increased an adjusted 2.5%, non-food sales rose 5.6% and motor fuel sales were up 8.3%.
