Aldi's logistics center in Hungary will be expanded with an 8,800-square-meter cold store, doubling its cold storage capacity in the country, according to an interview with Bernhard Haider, the Hungarian managing director of the discount chain.
The company can thus provide a much larger range of refrigerated products to customers, while at the same time increasing the number of warehouse workers by 50 people - it already employs more than 550 people in the field of logistics alone.
Almost HUF 8.5 billion was spent on the investment, of which HUF 4.6 billion was spent on expanding the network, for which a similar amount will be allocated this year as well. Since Aldi entered the domestic market in Hungary, the company has invested more than HUF 184 billion.
Haider said of the epidemic that March was marked by several waves of panic purchases, but in April, Easter sales fell short of expectations due to earlier stockpiles and curfew restrictions. It has now emerged that because of the home office, people cooked at home in May, but more traditional shopping trends are slowly returning.
