The Indian Film Festival in Budapest is being held for the tenth time, organized by the Indian Embassy. Between February 27 and March 1, seven films with Hungarian subtitles can be viewed free of charge at the Puskin Cinema in the Hungarian capital.
The festival brings Indian cinema culture, the energy of Bollywood, its visual world and rich storytelling tradition closer to the Hungarian audience, the organizers told MTI on Monday.
As they wrote, the Indian film industry — one of the world's largest and most prolific cinema cultures — proves with hundreds of productions each year that spectacular entertainment and sensitive portrayals of complex social issues can go hand in hand. Its films reach millions of people around the world.
This year's program, featuring seven films, offers a panorama of contemporary and award-winning works, ranging from historical epics to social dramas to inspiring true stories. One of the highlights of the festival is the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning RRR, which presents a monumental, spectacular chronicle of the desire for freedom and heroism through the friendship of two legendary revolutionaries.
The announcement highlighted that the festival, initiated by the Indian Embassy in Budapest, aims to strengthen cultural ties between India and Hungary through the universal language of film and to bring India's diverse culture closer to the audience.
"The power of the moving image is such that we can tell a story without a single word, and at the film festival, we celebrate not only the artistic excellence of cinema, but also the lasting friendship and cultural exchange between our peoples," Ambassador Anshuman Gaur was quoted as saying.
