The Lumiere Festival taking place from October 11 to 19 in Lyon, France will feature Hungary as the guest of honor, with a special focus on the legacy of director István Szabó, Hungary's National Film Institute said on Friday.
The festival will feature restored classics such as Apa (Father), the Oscar-winning Mephisto, and Being Julia introduced by Szabó himself. He will also lead a masterclass during the festival.
The National Film Institute (NFI) will participate in professional programs, including a roundtable discussion entitled 'A Reverse Model: Concrete Measures to Promote Hungary’s Film Heritage', with György Raduly, head of NFI's film preservation, Viktória Sovak, head of NFI's film laboratory, and Csaba Bereczki, head of NFI's distribution and international relations participating.
Founded in 2009 by Thierry Fremaux, the artistic director of the Cannes film festival, and Bertrand Tavernier, the festival is a prime platform for screening restored films. Hungary has been a regular participant there since 2017.
