The best of contemporary Italian cinema will be screened from Saturday to November 14 at the 21st Italian Film Festival, Mittelcinemafest, at the Puskin and Tabán cinemas in Budapest.
The festival will screen twelve contemporary Italian films in their original language with Hungarian subtitles, the organizers told MTI.
The opening film will be The Commander (Comandante), directed by Edoardo De Angelis and based on real events in World War II.
‘La Stranezza’ (‘Strangeness’) tells the story of a moment in the life of Nobel Prize-winning Italian playwright Pirandello. The film's director, Roberto Ando, won this year's Italian Golden Globe Award for Best Director for the story. The film has also received four other David di Donatello Awards from the Italian Academy of Cinema, one of the most prestigious Italian film awards.
The screenings will include the drama ‘Rapito’ (‘Kidnapped’) – directed by 84-year-old Marco Bellocchio –, which won the Golden Globe for best film this year, and the animation ‘Invelle’ (‘Nowhere’), which won the Venice Film Festival this year and tells the story of three girls in three different periods. The program also includes Alice Rohrwacher's ‘La Chimera’ (‘The Chimera’), starring Josh O'Connor and Isabella Rossellini.
