This year's Museum of the Year award was won by the Szentendre Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in the category of ‘large museums’ and by the Kunszentmárton Local History Museum in the category of ‘small museums’, the organizers told MTI on Monday.
The special prize of ICOM Hungary was awarded to the German Nationality Museum in Tata, the special prize of the Association of Hungarian Rural Museums to the Göcseji Museum in Zalaegerszeg, and the special prize of the National Association of Public Collections to the Bodrogközi Museum in Cigánd, at the conference and awards ceremony on Sunday evening at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest.
According to the reasons given in the press release, in the category of ‘large museums’, the Museum of the Year 2023 award was given to the Szentendre Open-Air Ethnographic Museum for its exemplary, pioneering and multifaceted, strategically based developments, including in the field of lifelong, experiential learning and knowledge transfer, for its presentation of the Transylvanian region and for its long-standing professional knowledge sharing in the field of museums in Hungary.
In the ‘small museums’ category, the Museum of the Year 2023 went to the Kunszentmárton Local History Museum for its large-scale development and innovative activities supporting the development and sustainability of the settlement.
The Museum of the Year Award was established in 1996 by the Pulszky Society to reward museum institutions that have made significant achievements in the past year.
