Celebrated pianist, jazz musician and composer György Vukán died this Monday, just nine days before his 72nd birthday. Although, he was widely known as a musician, he also held a degree in dentistry (received in 1964), a profession he also practiced.
Since his childhood, György Vukán was giving concerts for more than 4o years. At the beginning he mainly played classical music and then he gained fame mostly as a jazz piano artist in different formations./solo, duo, trio, ensemble, big-band, symphonic etc./
As a guest artist, he appeared all over Europe and was invited for concert month-long tours of to the United States (1983 and 1993). He played together with such brilliant names as Philly Joe Jones, Clifford Jordan, Linda Hopkins, Annette Lowman, Frank Foster, Clarck Terry, Kenny Wheeler etc. In 1992, he played with his CREATIVE ART TRIO at the Seville World Expo, where their concerts were always a huge success.
During his career, he also wrote more than 130 films cores (2 nominated for Oscar), 80 songs (to the poems of Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda, etc.) all the 150 Psalms for a capella choir, opera (Black Advent), 6 ballet–music (Derby. etc.), Mass (for symphony orchestra: soloists & choir), background-music for theater, television-films, radio-plays, as well.
