Kevin Macdonald and Andrew Macdonald, two of the most successful brothers in British cinema today, took Hungarian citizenship on Thursday at the Hungarian Parliament. Their grandfather was Imre Pressburger.
Andrew and Kevin Macdonald, the two grandsons of the Hungarian-born Oscar-winning screenwriter, film director and producer Emeric Pressburger (born Imre Pressburger), took up Hungarian citizenship alongside their British counterparts in a ceremony at the Hungarian Parliament on Thursday,.
The two Macdonalds are a pair of brothers well-known in British film art. Andrew Macdonald is a BAFTA-winning star producer, and the producer of Trainspotting and Ex Machina, among others. Kevin Macdonald is an Oscar-winning Hollywood director who has made films about Pelé, Whitney Houston and the Israeli Olympians murdered at the Munich Olympics. The latter, his documentary film One Day in September, won him an Academy Award. He has also worked with Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck and Jude Law.
The two made one of the first films of their film careers about their grandfather. 'Making an Englishman', a documentary about Imre Pressburger, was directed by Kevin and produced by Andrew Macdonald.
