Hungary has ensured France of its "full support and solidarity" in connection with the French military operations in Mali. A statement by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry views the French action as part of the global fight against terrorism.

According the Foreign Ministry, the French intervention is a proportionate response to a challenge by terrorist organisations jeopardising peace and security in Mali's Sahel region.

Hungary considers France's move as part of the global fight against terrorism, and in line with relevant international legislation and the founding deed of the United Nations, the document said.

In addition to supporting the French military operation, Hungary encourages the launching of a military mission by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as soon as possible, in order to enhance the African role in settling the crisis in Mali.
