In behalf of the government of New Zealand, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, John Allen, reappointed Rezsõ Sárdi as Honorary Consul of New Zealand for the second time since assuming the position six years ago.
The communiqué issued on the occasion states that Mr Sárdi has played a valuable support role in pursuit of the New Zealand Government’s external relations and trade objectives. He has been instrumental in helping strengthening New Zealand’s reputation in Hungary in relation to tourism, cultural and educational affairs. During his terms as Honorary Consul, Hungary has been witness to the steadily developing bilateral relationships in every major field, ranging from education to large-scale investments.
Several high-level delegations have paid an official visit to Hungary (most notable were the visits of the former Governor General and the Prime Minister), and the two governments have been negotiating the perspective ratification of the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa Scheme, which would give young people the opportunity to travel to New Zealand and undertake employment during their stay.
Rezsõ Sárdi has been delighted to accept his reappointment as Honorary Consul for an additional period of three years offered to him by the New Zealand Government. He has promised to “continue to facilitate contacts between the two countries, protect the rights and the security of New Zealand citizens visiting Hungary and keep together the Kiwi community living in the country.”
