The new US Ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, had a "productive conversation" with the President of the Republic of Hungary when he handed over his credentials.
New US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman said he was honored to present his credentials to President Katalin Novák at the Sándor Palace on Wednesday.
The diplomat shared several pictures of the meeting on his Twitter account, alongside which he wrote that they had "a productive conversation about the need to strengthen the U.S.-Hungary relationship."
The US Embassy in Budapest also issued a statement on the event, saying that the new ambassador was "accompanied to the Sándor Palace by his partner, Daniel Basila and their children, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission Derek Westfall."
The diplomat spoke to Katalin Novak about the importance of the long-standing relationship between the US and Hungary, "especially in light of the unprovoked war that Russia has launched against Ukraine, which has put European and global security under attack."
In these difficult times of war in Europe, it is more important than ever that our countries stand together against Russian aggression. We must unite to promote regional and international peace based on common transatlantic values," the Ambassador was quoted as saying, as he walked from the Sándor Palace to Heroes' Square, where he laid a wreath at the Heroes' Memorial, noting that it is important to pay tribute to the courage and loyalty of the people of Hungary, long-time allies and friends of the United States, hvg.hu reports.
