In June 2022, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 years was 4,739,000 in Hungary. Between April and June this year, the number of Hungarians working abroad increased by 13,000, the country’s Central Statistical Office reports.
In April–June 2022, compared to a year before, the number of employed persons was 74,000 more, at 4,693,000. The number of people working in the domestic primary labor market was up by 67,000 and that of members of households in Hungary working abroad by 13,000, while the number of public workers decreased by 6,000.
Among 15–64-year-olds, 4,586,000 people were classified as employed, and the employment rate for the age group was 74.3%. The number of employed males reached 2,433,000 following a growth of 23,000, and their employment rate increased by 1.2 percentage points to 78.8%. For females, employment rose by 39,000 to 2,154,000 and the employment rate by 1.7 percentage points to 69.8%.
In the young age group (of 15–24-year-olds), the number of employed persons was 261,000, and their employment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 26.6%. The employment rate was up by 1.5 percentage points to 88.4% in the ‘prime’ working-age population (aged 25–54 years) and by 3.1 percentage points to 65.3% in the older age group (of 55–64-year-olds).
The employment rate was highest in the capital (79.5%) and lowest in Northern Hungary (68.8%). In all regions, the employment rate of 15–64-year-olds increased compared to the same period of the previous year, with the highest increase in South Transdanubia (2.1 percentage points) and the lowest (0.7 percentage points) in West Transdanubia.
