Analysts say the economy has been hit hard by the Russian-Ukrainian war this year, which, along with the unfolding energy crisis, has also negatively affected stock market performance. Investor sentiment has also been hit by negative news of the EU agreement and war-related special taxes, which were extended to Richter just before Christmas.
The BSE share index started the year at 50,723.59 points, but after some minor fluctuations it started to fall sharply from mid-February, closing at 45,769 points on February 25 on news of the war. The BUX index bottomed out on September 29 at 37,035 points. On that day, Fitch Ratings, among others, published its forecast that growth in the EU economies of Central and Eastern Europe could slow to a ten-year low next year due to the energy crisis.
The index reached its highest level of the year on January 12 at 54,405 points, and its highest level since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on March 29 at 46,707 points. The closest the index came to the latter was on December 1, when it reached 46,368 points.
