Construction Sector Output Edges Down 1.2% in June

Output of Hungary's construction sector inched down 1.2% year-on-year in June, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday.

Construction sector output decreased by 5.0% when adjusted for the number of workdays. Output of the buildings segment fell 5.5% but civil engineering output rose 5.6%.

In absolute terms, construction sector output reached HUF 759 billion in June. The buildings segment accounted for 57% of the total.

In a month-on-month comparison, construction sector output slipped 3.9%, adjusted for seasonal and workday effects.

Order stock was down 0.4% at the end of June compared to twelve months earlier. Buildings segment orders slipped 1.5% and civil engineering orders inched 0.1% higher.

New order volume plunged 41.9% during the period. New orders in the buildings segment fell 16.8% and new civil engineering orders plummeted 58.6%.

For the period January-June, construction sector output edged down 0.7% from the same period a year earlier.
