Historic Record on the Budapest Stock Exchange

The Budapest Stock Exchange’s stock index rose to a new all-time high by the end of the week. The BUX closed at 146,688 points, up 2.24% for the week, while trading volume also exceeded the previous week’s level. Leading stocks all ended the week in positive territory.

Weekly trading volume totaled HUF 120.5 billion, up from HUF 106.96 billion the previous week.

In its weekly summary, Equilor Investment Ltd. highlighted that Mol announced it had filed a lawsuit against the National Tax and Customs Administration regarding the carbon dioxide quota tax in effect in Hungary since 2023. The company and its affected subsidiaries requested a tax refund in April 2026, which the tax authority rejected. This move follows a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union on April 16, which found that the carbon tax violates EU directives. The Mol Group has estimated the total value of the legal dispute at HUF 126.0 billion.

This week, Autonomous Research raised its 12-month price target for OTP shares to HUF 58,667 from HUF 54,445. Their recommendation remains “outperform.” UBS raised its 12-month target price from HUF 44,600 to HUF 52,900 and continues to recommend buying the company’s shares.

Among the leading stocks, Mol shares rose 1.25% this week; on Friday, the stock closed at HUF 4,530, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 23 billion.

OTP’s share price rose 3.17% this week, closing at HUF 46,820 on Friday, with weekly trading volume totaling more than HUF 69.1 billion.

Richter’s share price rose 1.46% during the week, closing at HUF 11,800 on Friday, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 21 billion.

Magyar Telekom’s share price rose 3.7%, closing at HUF 2,746 on Friday, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 5 billion. The BUMIX index, which tracks small- and mid-cap stocks, rose 1.15% to 107.12 points, closing the week at 9,433.29 points.
