In June, the volume of sales in retail shops increased by 4.3%, according to raw data and by 5.2% when adjusted for calendar effects compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a report published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office.
The volume of sales, adjusted for calendar effects, rose by 2.1% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 8.7% in non-food retail shops and by 7.4% in automotive fuel retailing. In January–June 2019, the volume of sales was 5.7% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The volume of sales grew by 2.4% in non-specialized food and beverages shops accounting for 75% of food retailing and by 1.4% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores.
The turnover of non-food retailing increased by a total of 8.7%. Sales rose in textiles, clothing and footwear shops (14%), non-specialized shops dealing in manufactured goods (7.8%), pharmaceutical, medical goods and cosmetics shops (7.1%), as well as in second hand goods shops (0.9%). In contrast, the volume of sales fell in furniture and electrical goods stores (–1.0%) and in books, computer equipment and other specialized stores (–0.7%).
