Hungary had a EUR 557 million trade surplus in August, according to data released by the country's Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Tuesday.
Exports fell 5.3% year-on-year to EUR 10.193 billion. Imports dropped 8.0% to EUR 9.636 billion.
Trade with other European Union member states accounted for 74% of Hungary's exports and 71% of its imports during the month.
Hungary's exports to the rest of the world decreased 4.7%, while imports from those countries fell 1.5%, KSH noted.
Hungary's terms of trade improved 3.2% during the period as the Hungarian forint weakened 0.4% against the euro and strengthened 5.0% to the US dollar.
For the period January-August, Hungary's trade surplus reached EUR 7.112 billion. Exports increased 1.2% to EUR 97.266 billion and imports edged up 0.2% to EUR 90.154 billion.
