8 million 25,755 people are eligible to cast ballots for local government representatives and mayors in Hungary on Sunday, October 13. Such elections are held every five years.
Chairman of the National Electoral Office, Ilona Pálffy told the Hungarian news agency MTI at a press conference this Friday about the main numbers characterizing the elections.
The election is open to 38,113 first-time voters, who have reached the age of majority since the European elections this May. The youngest voter is 16 years old, born on August 1, 2003 and is of legal age through having been married.
Of the eligible candidates, 11 do not have a Hungarian address and 61 are citizens of other EU member states.
There is only one candidate for mayor in 917 municipalities, and thus, one valid vote is enough for them to win.
The municipal elections coincide with the national minority elections where 317,804 people are eligible to vote for candidates for national minority representation bodies.
International observers will also be present - thirty of them have registered for these elections, so far.
