Hungary will call a tender for grid capacity allocation for 1,000 MW of wind energy by August 31, Economy and Energy Minister István Kapitány said in a social media video message on Friday.
As he put it, the Hungarian wind energy program has reached a new milestone.
The minister stated that volume – indicated after a gauge of market demand – exceeded Hungary's European Union commitment to call a tender for 700 MW of grid capacity to connect wind farms by the end of August. He added that battery storage investments could be paired with the capacity allocation.
Public consultations on the tender and related regulations will start in the coming week, and a technical analysis by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) will be completed by mid-August, István Kapitány added.
By 2030, Hungary aims to raise its grid capacity for wind energy to 4,000 MW, he highlighted.
