Hydrogen associations from nine Central European and Baltic states have founded the 3 Seas Hydrogen Council. One of its main tasks will be to represent the sector before the European Commission and the European Parliament, the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association has informed MTI.
The body brings together professional organizations from Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Ukraine.
According to the statement, the aim of the organization is to support the member countries on the path of green transformation and to explore opportunities for cooperation to develop a low-carbon economy, in which hydrogen will play an important role.
The signatories agree that the region is linked not only by a common history, but also by similar energy and heating structures and similar climatic conditions, including large seasonal differences in energy and heat demand. This leads member countries to urgently initiate a permanent dialogue and the development of common positions, especially in EU fora.
The President of the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association, István Lepsényi, pointed out in the statement that the large domestic companies that are active in the hydrogen industry today will cooperate in the global hydrogen market and will receive a larger share of the profits. For the time being, these companies are all subcontractors to large Western companies, but the new cooperation could make them major players, he said.
