E.ON Hungária has installed a solar park for the Belgian automotive glass manufacturer AGC in Tatabánya-Környe Industrial Park, E.ON Hungária told MTI.
The investment was made under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with E.ON. It is the first agreement in Hungary under which an energy company has installed a solar power plant on the customer's site. The 8,802 solar panels will provide 4.8 gigawatt hours of annual energy production, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of almost 1,900 families, they said.
It said the investment was justified by customer demand, as the glass industry needs a lot of electricity. They added that AGC Glass Hungary Ltd. is committed to green energy and plans to use more solar energy. The cooperation is also advantageous because the user has no more tasks than if it were receiving electricity from the grid, as the solar farm is operated and monitored by E.ON.
It was added that this is not the first joint energy efficiency project between E.ON Germany and AGC Group, and that further solar investments are planned as part of their cooperation in 2019. Based on its experience, the energy company expects the demand for decarbonization, security of supply and volatile commodity prices to drive the value of locally produced green power, and is therefore expecting growing interest from corporate customers.
