MET Group has inaugurated its second solar power plant in Hungary near Kaba in Hajdú-Bihar County, E Hungary, the company told MTI on Wednesday.
The power plant, which operates with more than 33,000 solar panels, can cover the energy needs of almost 13,000 households. The 23.4 megawatt solar power plant was built using state-of-the-art technology and will have a lifetime of at least 30 years. The MET's previous photovoltaic project in the Transdanubian municipality was commissioned in 2021, so the Kaba II Solar Park will be able to use the already established connection infrastructure, they said.
The statement highlighted that solar energy is a cheap and sustainable energy source available in large quantities, and MET is contributing to the green transition with this investment. Solar energy production in Hungary is growing rapidly, with a share of 33 percent today, they added.
The Swiss-based MET Group is present in 15 countries and is active in the electricity market, natural gas and the development of energy market instruments. Its Hungarian company, MET Hungary Solar Park Kft., closed 2022 with sales of HUF 3.155 billion and 2023 with sales of HUF 11.5 billion. Last year, its after-tax profit was close to HUF 2.7 billion.
