The Oroszlány Power Plant, northwest of Budapest, will join the national electricity supply companies as a biomass-based power plant in the first half of 2024, the Veolia Group, which is restarting the plant that closed seven years ago, told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the company, the Oroszlány power plant will be their fifth modernization project in which boilers previously fired by coal or chemical fuels will be converted to biomass.
The plant will be fueled by controlled quality biomass, which will be acquired from forestry by-products, wood by-products from wood processing plants and wood and herbaceous agricultural raw materials within a 100 km radius of the town.
To operate the power plant, 350 skilled workers are expected to be recruited from this spring, while a further 6-700 workers are expected to be employed in the fuel supply chain.
