The load on the Hungarian electricity system rose to its highest level so far this summer on Monday as cooling demand surged due to the heatwave, the financial portal portfolio.hu reported.
The system load, which indicates the instantaneous national electricity consumption, peaked at 6,264 MW around 20:30 on Monday the 21st, according to verified gross facts by the
Hungarian Independent Transmission Operator Company Ltd. (MAVIR).
The record for the summer of 2023 so far was 6,154 MW at 18:45 on July 17, when increased use of air conditioners during a heat wave (with an average temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius) also increased the national electricity demand.
However, this summer's new peak of 6,264 MW is far below not only the historic record of 6,940 MW set in 2021, but also the highest system load levels of recent summers, excluding the 2020 COVID-19 year.
