Shell's goal in Hungary is to deliver more and cleaner and cleaner energy solutions together with its customers and society. To expand its domestic fuel portfolio, Shell Hungary Plc. has acquired an LNG filling station along the M0 motorway. This is planned to be the first such station in its national network of filling stations planned to be built out in the next few years.
According to a press release by the company, its goal is to become a net zero emission energy company by 2050 or sooner in line with a changing society. Shell will work closely with its customers and the industry to accelerate the transition to net zero emissions. In addition to decarbonizing its own operations, it is also shaping its product portfolio to offer more cleaner, low carbon products to its customers. The company's entire emissions come from the use of fuels purchased at its filling stations.
Shell is therefore focused on driving innovation and keeping pace with changes in society, and – in line with societal changes – to provide cleaner, safer energy for its customers. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) has significant potential to make energy supply for transport cleaner and more economical fuel supply for and reduce heavy greenhouse gas emissions from heavy goods vehicles. Overall, LNG-powered trucks can also be cheaper to run than their diesel counterparts, so there could be not only environmental but also economic benefits for operators.
The newly purchased LNG station, located next to the Shell filling station in Szigetszentmiklós, just outside Budapest, is expected to be operational from the second half of next year. The company aims to provide nationwide LNG filling station network coverage along key transport routes and international transport corridors, offering a safe and cleaner fuel supply for its transport partners.
