The government would replace half of the existing bus fleet with electric ones. This will also play a role in making Hungary climate-neutral by 2050.
The Hungarian Minister of Innovation and Technology, László Palkovics is of the view that over the next ten years, half of the city bus fleet can be replaced with low-carbon electric buses using European Union and government funds.
He added that the greening of the largest pollutant sector is an essential element in order to fulfill the commitment in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement, to make the European Union and thus Hungary climate-neutral by 2050.
According to the decision of the Hungarian government, from 2022, only emission-free buses can be put into operation in cities with more than 25,000 inhabitants, and the government also provides financial support for their procurement.
