There are almost no Hungarians who would not be preoccupied with the future of the planet, and a resident can list an average of 12 environmental factors, according to a national, representative survey commissioned by the ALTEO Group.
Although different demographic groups differ on the significance of each of these, 80% agree on one thing: environmental protection is a shared responsibility of society as a whole.
The energy company ALTEO Group conducted a nationwide representative survey to assess the knowledge and behavior of the Hungarian population related to environmental protection. 92% of respondents have a declared interest in environmental protection, and 82% believe that environmental problems also have a direct impact on their lives. According to 63% of those surveyed, protecting the environment is so important that the fate of future generations depends on it, but nearly a third of them are not yet convinced that this would be one of the most important tasks for people today.
Everyone can do about it and do against it
Eight out of ten respondents say everyone is responsible for environmental problems and for how to solve them, while 19% expect meaningful action from companies, countries and global organizations. Nine out of ten people have said emphatically that they are taking action against the problems themselves, and nearly half of them see companies taking their share of caring for the environment. The top three things Hungarians do for a greener future are selective waste collection, avoiding waste of energy, water and food, and curbing shopping. The use of renewable energy occurs in every tenth household, while 4% of respondents drive an electric or hybrid car. Overall, those over the age of 50 and those with higher education are the most active environmentalists.
