Several sights and buildings in Budapest, including the Chain Bridge and the Mol Campus were illuminated pink this Sunday to call attention to the international campaign to popularize screenings to prevent breast cancer in the framework of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held each year in October.
Pink October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide. For over two decades, Health Bridge Breast Cancer Coalition has been raising awareness and educating women about the importance of mammography screening in Hungary. The non-profit association not only helps affected patients, survivors and their relatives during the crucial month of October, but also throughout the year, and educates healthy women, for example by raising awareness of possible risk factors.
The association organized its traditional walk along the River Danube from the Elizabeth Bridge to the Széchenyi Chain Bridge at sunset on Sunday.
The importance of breast cancer treatment and prevention was also highlighted by the oil and gas company Mol. With the unusual light painting of its headquarters, the company signalled its commitment to social responsibility by joining the series of actions, bearing in mind that the company can also have an impact on shaping public opinion through its role in the economy, the statement said.
The company is also using its own resources to promote prevention among its own employees, by promoting healthy lifestyles and nutrition, mammography screening and self-testing. In addition, preventive screening is part of the health insurance package for employees, they added.
