Thirty towns and cities in Hungary joined the call of the Hungarian Cancer League and took part in the World Cancer Walk on Sunday, the organization told the state news agency MTI.
The initiator of the World Cancer Walk is the NGO ‘Relay For Life’. Although many walks, hikes, parades have been / are / will be held in relation to cancer, the form of this initiative is unique in that it takes the form of a kind of relay.
Each participating town or city is assigned a time zone for the walk, and the sums of each time zone add up to the full 24-hour walk. The time zone of Budapest and Hungary lasted from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday. Participants registering for the initiative took one-hour walks outdoors in accordance with epidemiological rules.
The event was open to those who wanted to express their sympathy to a relative, acquaintance or other people with cancer, or just support the fight against cancer.
Thirty Hungarian towns and cities joined the initiative, including Budapest. The Sunday event was attended worldwide by a total of more than a thousand registered walkers, raising EUR 7,063 in donations for Relay For Life programs.
