The National Musculoskeletal Institute/National Institute of Rheumatology and Physiotherapy (ORFI) will implement 1.3 billion HUF worth of laboratory, imaging and functional movement analysis diagnostics with the support of the European Union in the framework of the Operational Program for the Development of Human Resources (EFOP), the head of the institution, Gyula Poór announced in Budapest on Friday.
The director said at a press conference that the project, which is being carried out in cooperation with the University of Vienna and the University of Mainz, will bring world-class, high-tech equipment to the institute, while Hungarian specialists will be able to learn how to apply the new diagnostic methods at the partner institutions.
The program will also enable the institution's specialists to pass on their knowledge to doctors working in less developed areas of the country, he added.
The aim of the tender where ORFI was awarded funding is “to bring our health system closer to the most advanced EU countries, and to adopt and adapt the advanced techniques that are not yet funded in our country. To this end, world-class dual-energy CT scanners, functional MRI and pocket ultrasound equipment, laboratory instruments for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases and a motion analysis system for screening children's conditions will be installed at the institution,” he said.
An international symposium will also be held at the National Musculoskeletal Institute ORFI campus, with the participation of German and Austrian colleagues, on the use of cutting-edge diagnostic techniques, Gyula Poór said.
