In the food courts, set up in the festival area, there is a strong focus on convenience services, an expanded international menu and special diets will be available. Festival-goers are sure to find a food court within a radius of about 150 meters, according to the organizers quoted by the financial website portfolio.hu.
A total of 11 food courts has been set up on Óbuda Island, there are around 100 food outlets at the festival altogether.
The total length of the food stalls exceeds 700 meters, and the total length of the drinks bars exceeds 900 meters.
This year, the international cuisine has been expanded with Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Japanese, Greek, French, Brazilian, American, Serbian, Mexican, Turkish and other dishes.
The top gastronomic scene is also present on the Island: the Mák Restaurant, the 101 Bistro and Yama have opened buffets (mainly in the VIP section), but also well-known brands such as Zing Burger, Che-Che Burger, Unicorn Bistro, Meraki Greek Restaurant, A Table, Vegan Love, Digó Pizza, Nemo Fish & Bar and even BITE, as well as Aldi. The supermarket chain has set up a complete food outlet with prices reflecting the national range, and can even grill the barbecue products on request.
Sziget's chief organizer, Tamás Kádár, told Portfolio that the restaurants are mainly selected through a competition, but there are some well-known ones that are invited to the festival. The deadline for applications is from January to March, and the criteria are the same for everyone and include sustainability elements.
The organizers agree with sub-contractors on a turnover basis, ask for a third of the income of the buffet or restaurant and, if necessary, can take effective action against poor-quality restaurateurs – for example, cut off the electricity or not invite them back the following year. The chief organizer says that they are particularly active and good at working with the authorities, for example, applicants have to consult with the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) in advance of any outing.
There are also several themed food courts, so red meat free food is available in two blocks, and the international offer is also available in two blocks. The organizers say there is a growing demand for 'free from' food, so there is a selection of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and sugar-free foods, as well as several fruit and vegetable points.
