With a performance of five petaflops, Komondor, the newest and most powerful supercomputer in Hungary, debuts in the world's TOP 500 supercomputers. The system, which is operated by the Governmental Information-Technology Development Agency (KIFÜ), will soon be available to users after testing.
High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, a supercomputer with enormous computing power, is now indispensable in science and in the development of innovative industrial solutions. It helps solve everyday problems such as climate research, telecommunications, transport management, energy, production optimization and the development of the latest advances in medicine, KIFÜ’s Communications Department told the professional journal Computerworld.
The installation of the newest Hungarian supercomputer, Komondor, started in September at the Supercomputer Center of the University of Debrecen. The new supercomputer has a performance of 5 HPC petaflops, which includes dedicated Artificial Intelligence and Big Data partitions in addition to high-capacity processor and graphics computing units.
The Komondor, with energy-efficient cooling, will be available with 100 Gb/s bandwidth through the KIFÜ-provided network serving domestic higher education, public education, research and development, libraries, public collections and other public institutions. The capacity of the machine will be available free of charge to higher education institutions, research institutes and their partners, and under certain conditions to innovative market players, R&D actors.
