Chief Warrant Officer László Kaszab was appointed Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) at NATO's Allied Command Operations (ACO) in Mons, Belgium as the first Hungarian to receive that position at the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).
At an event marking his appointment, Hungarian Armed Forces Commander Gábor Böröndi told Hungarian journalists that Kaszab's career in special operations, his professionalism, "human qualities" and excellent knowledge of English qualified him for the task.
Böröndi said it was of special importance that NATO appointed a Hungarian to the highest position for non-commissioned officers "in the current security situation riddled with challenges."
"This is a recognition of Kaszab himself, but also of Hungary and its Armed Forces," he said.
In a statement, Kaszab said he will be a contact person between the commander, non-commissioned officers and soldiers, aiming to ensure that guidelines and tasks are carried out as intended by leadership.
