The Czech Republic will send fifty police officers to the Hungarian-Serbian border, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jan Hamácek announced at a press conference in Prague after a cabinet meeting, the news site hvg.hu reports.
The Czech police officers will be deployed for two months from 15 October on the Hungarian-Serbian border, providing an extra force to protect the Schengen external borders.
The Czech contingent's two-month operation will cost CZK 50 million (some HUF 700 million), a sum approved by the government on Monday and transferred to the interior ministry's account.
The Czech Republic will thus have police contingents in northern Macedonia, Slovenia and Hungary from mid-October. Jan Hamácek raised the idea of extending the Czech mission with his colleague Alex Hojs during a visit to Slovenia last week. Ten Czech police officers have been deployed on the Slovenian-Croatian border since the summer.
