The aircraft that will carry the Hungarian Olympic team and fans to the Paris Olympics, which start on July 24, has been given a unique livery and design. The plane was unveiled at Budapest's Liszt Ferenc Airport on Thursday.
At the inauguration, Minister of State for Sport Ádám Schmidt thanked Wizz Air and the airline's experts for the work they had done, and said that "the sight of the plane is worth everything". The aircraft, which is decorated with gold stripes, also bears the Team Hungary inscription, the Hungarian coat of arms and the five-ring banner.
Zsolt Gyulay, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC), stressed that the agreement with Wizz Air was a good one, and that several airlines had been in talks about the special aircraft.
"For us, the primary concern this time was again the athletes' comfortable and quick exit. This plane will fly every morning and afternoon, which will help our athletes to prepare and concentrate on their tasks. The return of the Olympics to Paris after 100 years, and to Europe after many years, will of course make transport easier," he stressed.
The HOC President said that Hungary currently has 161 Olympic quotas. He stressed that "if all our athletes give their best, we will not disappoint in Paris."
Roland Tischner, Wizz Air's operations director, revealed that several months of preparation and construction work preceded the painting of the aircraft, a process that took a week alone.
"A team of thirteen people worked on this, and the design consists of 50 smaller and larger elements. It's important to know that there is also an inscription on the bottom of the plane, so, every time it flies over Budapest, everyone will be able to see that it is the plane carrying the Hungarian Olympic team," he said.
