The bomb disposal of the 500-kilogram US aerial bomb found on Tuesday in the Petróleum Bay in Csepel, in the south of Budapest has been successfully completed, and the police have lifted the temporary restrictions imposed on the affected area, the 1st Home Guard Bomb Disposal and Warfare Regiment of the Hungarian Army informed the state news agency MTI on Friday morning.
The bomb disposal team removed the armed nose and bottom firing devices of the aerial bomb, and then lifted the defused bomb with the help of a special crane on board one of the corps' mine-clearing warships. The bomb will be transported by water to the central collection point of the Hungarian Defense Forces, they said.
After the operation was completed, the police lifted the temporary restrictions in the affected area.
On Tuesday, workers on a dredging vessel found the large explosive device while cleaning the river bed in the Petróleum Bay in Csepel.
