Budapest Zoo Celebrates World Animal Day

The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden is holding its 'Love of Animals and Plants Festival' this Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The three-day event - held on the occasion of the October 4 World Animal Day - raises awareness of the important role of animals and plants.

At the station near the Great Lake, visitors can learn about the zoo's wildlife rescue activities and the work of the ZOO. There will also be creative arts and crafts activities and a bee-keeping demonstration, courtesy of the Sárosi Apiary.

On Saturday, visitors were able to get a glimpse into the world of arthropods at the Hungarian Insect Society's station, while on Sunday, into how WWF Hungary can help to protect Hungary's natural assets.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society had a special stand at its Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Section, which presents a program to protect the Hungarian Crab Viper, the rarest vertebrate animal in Hungary, while the Hungarian Environmental Education Association will be presenting a programme on sustainability.

A meeting of zoo foster parents was also held on Sunday. The festival program will be rounded off with spectacular feedings, animal trainings, demonstrations and 'TapiZoo' stations showing 'animal parts'.
