A jubilee event was held on Thursday in Kács, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, NE Hungary on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Bükk National Park.
Tthe law establishing the Bükk National Park came into force on 1 January 1977. The national park was the third in the country to be established, and its main attraction is the Bükk mountain, which has an average altitude of almost 1,000 meters above sea level and contains some 800 caves, a quarter of the ecotourism facilities are in the national park, which are visited by 200,000 people a year, but also many tourists staying in the area.
The area of the national park has doubled since its foundation and now covers almost the entire Bükk Mountains, with the Directorate managing more than 43,000 hectares.
