The energy company E.ON has begun flood protection measures, and in case of an emergency during the Danube flood wave, the power will be switched off immediately, the company told MTI on Tuesday.
Eexperts of the group, responsible for the operation of the electricity network of Transdanubia, Pest county and Budapest, are in constant contact with the authorities managing flood protection and local governments, working with them to participate in the management of the crisis situation.
In the affected areas, E.ON will ensure power supply as long as it is safe to do so. Precautionary measures and disconnection of service may be necessary to protect the safety of customers' lives and property, they said, adding that the first safety shutdowns have already taken place in the areas of Pilismarót and Neszmély, as well as on Falcon Island.
E.ON will also monitor the rate at which the tide is receding and will restore power supply to the affected areas as soon as possible after the crisis has passed.
The energy company is also supporting the work of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid in flood protection, the statement said.
