The Euronics technical goods chain has opened a robotized warehouse in Üllő, just outside Budapest where the HUF 1.6 billion investment has doubled the warehouse space and, thanks to automation, the dispatch of goods is about 30% faster.
A statement sent by the company to the state news agency MTI stresses that the artificial intelligence-controlled robots can also reduce the physical workload of workers.
The new 28,000-square-meter warehouse of the Veszprém-based technical goods chain will allow for more economical and efficient operations. Euronics has so far supplied its network with products from two warehouses, but from now on, all logistics operations will be carried out in one place, they said.
They added that the company planned the investment with a 2-5-year horizon, anticipating continuous capacity expansion and the expected growth of the company. This will allow the storage of about 30,000 products, totaling 300,000 to 400,000 items.
Euronics, which employs 1,100 people, will increase its retail sales by more than 11% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching HUF 71 billion. Sales through the webshop exceeded the 2020 performance by almost 20%. The majority of sales came from the national network of 64 specialty stores, which also showed double-digit growth compared to the previous year.
By 2021, the turnover of the garden and DIY product range introduced in 2020 will have increased more than fivefold compared to the previous year.
At the end of January, the company launched a HUF 7 billion green bond issue, which will be used to finance energy efficiency projects in the company's infrastructure, the statement said.
