Hungarian Parliament has voted this Monday to give its assent to Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Members of parliament approved the law on the proclamation of the accession protocol by 188 votes to 6, with no abstentions.
The previously neutral northern European state, together with Finland, applied to join the military alliance following the outbreak of Russia’s war in Ukraine in 2022. Sweden will become a member when it deposits its instrument of accession with the US government.
Although the government submitted a ratification proposal to parliament in July 2022, the vote has been delayed since then for a variety of reasons and thus, Hungary became the last NATO member to approve the Scandinavian country’s NATO membership.
