Hungary took 14th place on the 2025 International IP Index ranking of the US Chamber of Commerce, the Hungarian National Intellectual Property Office (SZTNH) said on Wednesday.
Hungary has moved up one place in the ranking compared to 2023 and 2024, and is ahead of regional countries like Austria, Poland and Ukraine, SZTNH noted.
Progress was largely due to the achievements in the newly introduced category of high-tech innovations and incentives for drugs research for uncommon diseases.
The report identified Hungary’s greatest strengths as the advanced legal framework provided by the European Union, tax incentives supporting research and development activities, and the outstanding patent system.
At the same time, the analysis also identified risk factors, such as uncertainties surrounding compulsory licensing mechanisms and the occasional difficulty in enforcing rights in the digital environment.
The index is compiled using filing numbers and an assessment of the regulatory and institutional framework of a country. The index has been published for the thirteenth time and ranks 55 countries.
