Hungary has lowered its terrorism threat level from high to moderate, MTI quoutes a statement from the interior ministry this Thursday.
The deputy director-general of counter-terrorism force TEK convened the Anti-Terrorism Coordination Committee, where experts reviewed the security situation and recommended the change, the ministry said in a statement. Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai subsequently approved the reduction of the terrorism threat level from a level 2 (high) to a level 3 (moderate).
The committee's analysis, based on current security risks and international intelligence, concluded that maintaining stricter measures was no longer justified at the present threat level.
Law enforcement and national security agencies will continue monitoring the situation and ensuring the protection of citizens and critical infrastructure in line with legal requirements, the statement said.
The then Hungarian government raised the country's terrorism threat level by one tier on February 28, the day the Iran war broke out.
