It was the first time in the history of the International Travel Awards that a development won three awards: the Liget Budapest Project won first place in two categories: the World's Best Tourism Development and Europe's Best Family Friendly Development, while the Hungarian House of Music was awarded the title of Europe's Most Attractive Tourist Attraction at the awards ceremony in Dubai, according to a statement sent to MTI.
The International Travel Awards are the most prestigious awards in the travel and tourism industry, also known as the ‘Oscars of Tourism’, and reward the best of the thousands of entries each year. The awards ceremony has been held every year since 2018 to reward the best in the competition for projects, developments and attractions that stand out in terms of their attractiveness to tourists. Nominations are received in a number of categories for buildings, natural sites and special attractions from each continent, with the winner selected by public vote after evaluation by a panel of judges. Tourism professionals, the media and visitors from all over the world voted for this year's nominees from the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and Oceania.
"It is a matter of great pride that the Liget Budapest Project, currently the most significant cultural investment in Europe, and the Hungarian House of Music, which is part of it, contribute significantly to the tourism attractiveness of the country and the capital, which was confirmed by the votes of the public, in addition to the recognition of the tourism professionals. In addition to the exceptionally high visitor numbers, this is also proven by the fact that we were able to win three awards at the International Travel Awards, one of the most important tourism competitions," the press release quotes Benedek Gyorgyevics, the CEO of Városliget Plc., the management company of the City Park area.
"One of our primary goals was to make the City Park a must-visit tourist attraction in Budapest. The increasing numbers of foreign visitors to the Hungarian House of Music, the Museum of Ethnography and the Balloon Observatory show that we are on the international tourist map. And the long-term goal is to continuously attract new cultural content and recreational experiences to the park, which will make it worthwhile to visit Budapest and spend longer periods of time here, or even to return again and again, he added.
He was also of the view that “with the world's most prestigious tourism and real estate development awards, we can now say that everyone is talking about the uniqueness and complexity of the Liget project, where over 100-year-old institutions can peacefully coexist with new ones of outstanding architectural quality, forming a living system, while nature, the park, surrounds them with recreational features and opportunities.”
