12 hotels across Hungary have joined the Munch food-saving platform: ten hotels in Budapest and two in the countryside are currently participating in the anti-waste initiative. The hotels in the capital have saved a total of 6,000 kg of food.
According to a 2018 study, hotels produce 79,000 tons of food waste every year, accounting for 10% of commercial food waste worldwide.
Sustainability is now not just a buzzword, but a real consumer and societal need. Increasingly, the expectations of hotels include contributing to sustainability through environmentally conscious, green actions, while maintaining their elegant, luxurious services. Saving food is one of the ways in which hotels can contribute to sustainability in an almost imperceptible way: by selling leftovers from a buffet breakfast or daily menu through Munch, they can save energy and money.
A press release on the subject points out that hotel breakfasts and menus are particularly popular with food savers. It is worth grabbing the packages available immediately, as they usually sell out in a matter of minutes. The secret behind the huge demand is the delicious flavors and the quality of service that hotels offer. When you pick up your munch, you can feel a little like a hotel guest too, as the elegant interiors and extremely polite, friendly staff bring a sense of luxury to your stay.
Besides Hilton, other prestigious hotels in Budapest are also participating in the Munch: Hotel Oktogon, Hotel Nemzeti, Hotel Moments, Netizen Hotel, Hotel President, Diamond Hill Hotel & Restaurant, Alta Moda Fashion Hotel and Hotel Vision. Their surprise packages will include everything you need for a perfect breakfast: sweet and savory pastries, cold cuts, vegetables and many other tasty surprises.
The most popular hotel, however, was not in the capital but in Eger: the Minaret Hotel and Restaurant in Eger saved the most munchies from being wasted. The second most popular was Hotel President, and Hotel Moments came in third.
