For the eleventh time, Magyar Posta, the Hungarian Post Office, is issuing a stamp design with motifs of the Chinese horoscope, this time to greet the upcoming period between February 10, 2024 and January 28, 2025, the Year of the Dragon.

According to Dr. Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta Plc., "just as a stamp is a bridge between people, culture is a bridge between China and Hungary.  We can learn a lot from each other's innovations, art and gastronomy, which is why we think it is important to greet the New Year, which is celebrated at different times in China, with our miniature stamp sheets. The Dragon is a symbol of goodness, courage, consistency and perseverance. These are important values, some of which are also reflected in the way Magyar Posta operates."

Chinese New Year is a time for family reunions, when three or four generations gather to remember their ancestors. The Lunar New Year is the second New Moon day after the winter solstice, but the celebrations in China last for fifteen days, during which time various festivals are organized in the country. During this period, families cook traditional dishes and share their wishes for the New Year.

Designed by Katalin Bódi, the Year of the Dragon stamp design features two different stamp images: the tree representing growth and progress, and the Chinese dragon symbol representing goodness, courage, intelligence, consistency and perseverance. The First Day Cover (FDC) and the stamp imprint on the First Day Cover also feature dragon motifs. The Year of the Dragon will be followed by the Year of the Snake in 2025.
