The number of foreigners living in Hungary for a longer period of time has increased by nearly 50%, from 142,000 to 205,000, since Hungary joined the European Union in 2004, the Hungarian business weekly HVG published this Thursday.

Data by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows that the German community has grown from less than 7,000 to nearly 22,000, and the Austrian from 500 to more than 4,000 over the period under survey. The number of British, French, Italian and Dutch citizens residing here has also exceeded 2,000, six to eight times more than in 2004.
