Over 12,000 People Arrived from Ukraine on Saturday

5,852 people entered Hungary on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border on Saturday, while 6,605 of those entering the country on the Romanian-Hungarian border said they had come from Ukraine, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) told the state news agency MTI on Sunday.

Of those who entered the country, police issued 353 people with temporary residence permits valid for 30 days, during which time they must visit the office of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing in their place of residence to obtain permanent documents, they said.

On Saturday, 132 people, including 74 children, arrived in Budapest by train to escape the war in Ukraine.

On Sunday, the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) said on police.hu that it was assisting refugees arriving by train from Ukraine with the Standby Police and police patrol training participants, and that the Budapest Civil Guard Association was also providing support.

The police officers are in constant contact with the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing, the Hungarian State Railways, the Budapest Transport Centre, the Budapest Municipal Police Directorate, the Budapest City Government Office and the staff of aid organizations, the BRFK said.
