At Hungarian real estate broker Duna House’s (DH) office in Spain, 15% more Hungarian clients expressed interest in Spanish real estate this year than a year ago; Hungarians are typically looking for smaller apartments, the real estate agency has disclosed.
According to the data, more than 60% of the Spanish apartments purchased by Hungarians are smaller than 80 square meters, while apartments and houses larger than 100 square meters are primarily purchased by American, Dutch and British buyers.
Based on Duna House’s experience, Hungarian clients visiting the Costa del Sol this year were mostly looking for new two-bedroom apartments priced between EUR 350,000 and 600,000. However, based on official data, the majority of Hungarian buyers are purchasing smaller and less expensive properties. Such properties can also be found on the Costa Blanca, in Torrevieja, where apartments are available for an average of EUR 250,000 to 400,000, depending on size.
In the press release, Viktória Udvarnoki, head of Duna House’s Spanish office, emphasized that Hungarians are now also benefiting from the strong forint; a EUR 400,000 seaside apartment currently costs more than HUF 9 million less in forints than it did in March.
She added that most buyers would spend a few weeks a year in the property they purchased and rent it out for the rest of the year. A change from previous years is that interest is no longer limited to the city of Marbella; Estepona, Mijas and Manilva are also being considered.
