Around 6,600 foreign nationals bought homes in Hungary last year, real estate broker OTP Ingatlanpont said on Thursday, citing data compiled by the Central Statistics Office (KSH).
The value of those homes was about HUF 309bn.
The data show Germans bought the most homes during the year: 1,396. They were followed by the Chinese, who bought 708 homes, and the Romanians, who bought 671. Slovak nationals also bought 671 homes in Hungary in 2024.
In Budapest, foreign buyers accounted for 7.8% of the total, with their purchases making up one-tenth of the total turnover, meaning that they bought properties that were more expensive than average. Foreign buyers concentrated in the inner districts of Pest, where they accounted for 19% of transactions. Chinese and Vietnamese purchases were the most numerous in Budapest, with their total value accounting for 3.9% of the total market turnover.
